"I've been fortunate to live in two amazingly beautiful places - originally from Northern Ireland but now live in Alaska. Dh Dan and I have a very photogenic daughter Lauren (age 9) and a very photo phobic son Nathan (age 11). We share our home with 2 dogs and 3 cats and we love to travel, to hike and fish (well - I like to read, they like to fish- LOL!).
Of course, I love to scrapbook and have been scrapping for about 6 years. I dabble a little in digi and also love to make cards. Primarily I prefer to scrap in a bold graphical style but I can try my hand at most things. My fav teqniues are sewing and photo editing."

Ribbon Organizing Tip!

There is NO other scrapbook supply that I collect more than FABULOUS ribbon!!! Yards and Yards of FABULOUS ribbons!!!!

This often poses a problem though for a lot of people.....Especially a STORAGE problem! I know we all have our own ways of storing ribbon but I just wanted to share what "I" do and organize MY ribbons!!!!

I use book rings!!! You can find them in varying sizes and colors and I organize mine by color. All of my pink ribbons on one ring all of my blue on another and so on and so forth then I have some peg board that I keep all of my supplies on and I hang them off of a long pronged hook OR you can get and old paper towel holder and clip your book rings to that! Or something ive done in the past was to put them on a wooden dowel hung up in my scrap space.

I still have a few scraps of my March kit so I thought I would make a card from them. Love the colors of the papers from the kit and they pair up with kraft cardstock perfectly! I cut out 1 big square from kraft cardstock, 4 squares from the green pattern paper, a scalloped circle from the red Jenni Bowlin paper, and some smaller circles from various cardstocks and then stamped Happy Birthday on the smallest circle. I liked how it looked but wanted to add a little pizazz by adding some ribbon and the butterfly. If you haven't tried a springy card, now's the time. Be sure to post it to the gallery so we can see it!!

Supplies:
Satin fabric (or any lining type fabric)
Scissors
3 sizes of circles (make cardboard patterns or use a die and die cut machine)
pins
heat gun
buttons, brads (things for centers)

Fold fabric several times and pin pattern on top-Cut out stack of circles.

Stack several of each size (at least three of each)

Use a button or brad to attach all in the center.

Use the heat gun to slowly heat and curl the fabric-I used a poker tool to keep the flower from blowing away.

My Wednesday project

.....which is a little late. So sorry!!
I just adore my son's teacher so I wanted to make her something to let her know how much she is appreciated. So I made her this cute little sticky memo pad which has a strip of magnet on the back so she can hang it up.

I started with a 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" piece of yellow cardstock and layered it with the BG pattern paper that measures 6 1/4" x 4 1/4". Then I just decorated it as I wanted, added a stack of sticky memo pads to the front and a strip of magnet on the back. This is perfect for anyone and it was so easy to make!!

How many of you have several transparencies and are not sure when or where to use them……Here is a fun way to use up that stash and create a fun and interesting Layout design too!

Cut a portion of the transparency out and line it up along your layout lines or design. Adhere and enjoy!

In my example, the wings and heart are from a transparency!

Scrap Embellishment Tutorial

(thanks to my friend SARES for the inspiration to try this technique)

Gather your supplies, scraps, adhesive, punch and a base cardstock piece (I use 8 1⁄2 x 11)

Glue the pieces together onto the cardstock to form a collage of scraps.

Cover as much of the cardstock as you think you will need!

Use your punch to punch out shapes that show several scraps in an appealing way.

These little embellishments are fun to arrange and rearrange due to their varied colors!

Place punched pieces onto your layout and enjoy!

Raised Watermark Tutorial

Here I will show you a super easy and popular technique used everyday in the scrap world. Today we will be learning how to leave a raised watermark impression. First gather the following supplies, you will need, a heat gun, some embossing or pigment ink any kind of ink that dries slowly can be used here, embossing powder in clear, any stamp, some paper, and some ink that is darker than the paper you’ve chosen.

First grab your stamp and coat it generously with the embossing ink, you can do this by pressing the stamp onto the pad of ink or by picking up the ink pad and pressing it down onto the stamp.

When you feel you have coated the stamp with enough ink hover your stamp above your paper to get it into position then press down firmly. Remove the stamp and wash with soap and water or wipe off with a baby wipe.

Next unscrew the cap from you embossing powder and pour over stamped image. You want to be fairly quick with this step to prevent drying out the ink

Turn on your heat gun and let it warm up a few seconds then point toward your image. If you are using a light or thin piece of paper sometimes its better to apply the heat from behind the paper to reduce the chance of burning your paper and leaving unsightly marks.

Your image is correctly embossed when it turns shiny and has a smooth texture

Now that your image is embossed take out your ink that is darker than your paper. Here you can apply the ink directly to the image. A great tip is to use an application tool, I personally prefer to use makeup sponges to save money and time. Saturate your applicator.

Rub onto image.

In the end you have a fabulous image that adds depth and personality to any project!

Barn Star Tutorial

One of the funnest and most asked about home made embellishments Ive found happen to be one of the EASIEST projects that you can create and today I will teach you how to make them!

First thing is first, either "Trace", "Hand-Cut", or use a "Die-Cut" machine to creat your star!

Next step is the key step and very easy, draw straight lines from the tip of each arm all the way down to the "In" corners.

Next fold with your lines on the "Inside" of your fold and make a crease on every line.

When you are finished making all of your creases your star will look like this:

Next is the step that adds the dimension to your star! Ink or chalk the edges and the creases with your ink pad or a Q-Tip.

Tip: fold your star at each crease again to make inking the creases easier.

Here is the finished result!!!

And here is an example layout using the same technique!

I just love the "Americana" feel these stars add and they can be done in so many different ways to add interest to "Any" project!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I wanted to share some tips for getting a holiday photo done. It is one thing that I start to stress about a little bit, knowing that those cards will need to be mailed out soon!
Start early. Now is a good time to start thinking of getting the family together for a picture. Decide what everyone will wear and what you want the background to be. Even going to pick your tree could be a great photo moment. Find someone to take the photo for you, or set up the self timer on your camera. Take allot of pictures when you are set up. The more people that you have in a picture, the more pictures will be need to be taken to capture the perfect moment (and account for those closed eyes!)

Technique Tuesday- Flower Power

I wanted to give you a little tutorial on how to make a dimensional flower. You can use it as embellishment for a gift, or even to put it on a scrapbook page! I used my example for a gift that I will be giving to my niece this Halloween.

You will need to cut some strips approximately 1 inch wide by 12 inches.

Pleat the strips. Then cut the strips depending on to what size you want the flower to be. Then place the cut strips on top of each other and staple together.

I then used a circle punch to cut out the polka dot paper as the center, and added an alphabet sticker. Happy flower making!

Altered Magnet!

This is a fun, quick and easy challenge. I tend to somehow collect magnets from advertisers. I don't use them, don't want them, but instead of thowing them away, why not turn them into something pretty that you would like to see hanging on your fridge?

So, that is what we are going to do...we are going to take a regular magnet and turn it into a work of art! Please notice that I used papers from the fabulous September kit!!

First, gather your supplies:

Next, glue the magnet to the paper.

While the glue is drying, prepare embellishments. I cut the butterfly out of the paper.

After the glue has dried, ink the edges of the magnet.

Add your embellishments and hang proudly on your fridge!

Technique Tuesday

Next Sunday (Sept. 13th) is Grandparents Day. Mini albums are a great gift for the occasion. We are going to make a paper bag album. It is also a great way to use up allot of your scraps, and extra ribbon that you have.

Once you have the bag assembled you now get to decorate as you like! I usually pre cut all my pages then decide what order I want to put them in. If some pages have large embellishments, try using that as a journaling page.

What is great about these little bag albums, is that pockets are created one the pages that have open ends. I like to staple ribbons to embellishments to create little tags. If you have extra photos that won't fit on your book, you can slide the photos into the pockets.

This is a really nice project to be able to start and finish in an afternoon. Even think of doing them assembly line style for multiple family members!

Today I'm going to show you a simple technique on glittering chipboard.

Glittering Chipboard
Supplies
Chipboard shape
Acrylic paint of choice
Martha Stewart glitter adhesive
Martha Stewart Glitter
Paint brush

Apply acrylic paint to chipboard
Let dry.

Apply Glittering adhesive to chipboard after acrylic paint dries.

Sprinkle glitter over chipboard, let dry.

Shake off excess glitter.

You are ready to adhere your glittered chipboard to your project. Here's what I did with mine.

Tuesday Technique!!

For today's technique, I'm going to show you how to make really quick and easy flowers out of fabric!!! If you buy the August kit, you will be all set!!!

The first thing you need to do is cut a strip of fabric. It needs to be about 1.5" to 2" wide and you can determine the length. I used the fabric that comes in the August Kit and used the length of that fabric .

After to cut your strip out, fold it in half. If you iron a crease in it, it will make it easier. After you have done this, run a stitch along the length of the fabric. Do not put in a back stitch. You will want to have extra thread at the ends.

Start at one end of the strip and pull on one of the threads. This will start creating a gather on the fabric. Once you get about halfway, knot the end and go to the other end and pull on one of the strings to create another gather. Then, knot that end.

Double fold the ends and stitch. Arrange the flower and handstitch the layers to each other. Then, add a button or some sort of center for the flower.

Another fabric flower I made for the August kit was a pleated flower. I cut a strip of fabric. Then, put in small handstitched pleats down the length of the strip. Once this is done, connect one end of the strip to the other so that it makes a circle. Add a button or other embellishment for the flowers center.

Find Inspiration Everywhere!

Good evening bloggers! Today I am going to get you up and going on creating an inspiration journal. Everyday I see things that inspire me or intrigue me--tv commercials, blogs, nature, magazines, etc, etc. I always "think" I will remember these things later, but inevitably I forget. So, I created an inpiration journal to help me remember all those fabulous ideas that come up at odd times of the day.

Go out and purchase a small inexpensive notebook. This should be easy since school shopping has already started! You can do a standard size notebook or a smaller notebook--you pick! Now it's time to get creative. Cover your notebook inside and out with patterned paper, embellishments, and stickers to your liking. Viola! You have a creative inspiration notebook! Now all you need to do is fill it! Keep this notebook with you at ALL times. Write anything and everything that strikes you at the moment. Cut pictures out of magazines. Color in different color combination's you see. This journal is just for you so do whatever you like with it! When you get ready to sit down and scrap---grab your journal. All those wonderful ideas will come rushing back to you and in no time you will have created a fabulous layout (or two!).

Technique Tuesday!

Today I'm going to show you how to make your own Dew Drops, I call them Skittles. This is a very inexpesive way to add embellishments to your layouts and flowers. They are easy to make and less expensive than buying them at the store. The bag of filler will cost around $5.00 and you willhave enough Skittles to last you forever!!You will need to make a trip to your local Michaels for the vase filler needed to complete this project.

Making your own Dew Drops (Skittles)
Supplies needed
1 bag of vase filler – can be purchased at Michaels in the floral section
Alcohol inks in various colors
Zip lock baggies

Pour a handful of skittles (or however many you want to color) in a baggie.

Add about 5 drops of Alcohol ink into the baggie and shake until all of the skittles are colored. Add more ink if you want them darker.

Leave baggies open to dry skittles. (about 5 minutes)

Organize in a container.

Use on your layouts!

July "Summer Fun" challenge #2

This week we are going swimming!!! Be prepared to get WET!

Your challenge this week is to create a layout with a "splash". Your photo must be centered around water in some form or another---bathtub, swimming pool, lake, etc, etc. AND it must also include some sort of sparkle to it--i.e. jewels, bling, glimmer mist, or stickles.

Reduce, re-use and recycle......so we're all tightening the belt a bit and well it's tough these days to justify spending money on extra supplies and stuff so I have been trying to come up with ways to use the stuff I already have.....and here's a quick way to make a background.....so here we go.....

You'll need:

A scrap of paper, paint, paint brush, and left-over foam dot sheet with all the holes punched out.....remove backing from one side and press it over a dish towel or your jeans to get rid of most of the stickiness -- that way it won't stick and rip the paper once you remove it.

You'll want to line up your foam sticker sheet with the scrap however you like -- if you want a continuous design or a random design, it's all up to you.

Then you will need to apply the paint to each hole.....the foam makes a great masking because it's thicker and there's less bleeding.....

Once you have applied it, give it a little time to dry and then remove....you can add stickles, trace around each dot with a pen, add some bling in a pattern or randomly.....I chose to use mine as a card.

My last challenge....

well, for now anyway! My DT term ends in a couple of weeks and I am going to take some time off to spend with family, so this will be my last challenge for you! But I'll be back!! ;)

For this challenge, I would love for you to make a card or LO or altered project using some handmade paper flowers! But I want you to use crinkled cardstock/paper to make yours! Just cut or punch out some circles, or whatever shape you think would make a great flower, crumple it up in your hand, open it, then crumple up again, open it up again and then build your flower! It can be embellished anyway you like! Here is a card I made last week. I used a heart punch for the base of my flower and then added a button and some hemp cord. Be creative! I can't wait to see what you come up with!! It's also a great way to use up any scraps you have lying around! I used some leftover scraps from the Feb Kit for mine!

This month's kit is fantabulous!!!! I am so in love with the colors and the versitility of this kit! This month, I decided to do two different types of picture frames with the kit. The first one was an altered photo frame. Which is also the June class I created and can be found here: http://moments-2-remember.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=133&t=6311

The other frame I made was a bit different. I didn't alter the frame, but left it as it was. Instead, I created a layout to fit inside the frame. The layout was much larger than your normal 12x12 size layout.

So, dig out your frames, old and new, and alter or create a layout to fit inside the frame! It's a lot of fun and a great way to decorate your home (or someone else's) and show off your creative talent!!!

May Kit Sneaky...REVEAL!!!

Hi everyone!!! Today I'm going to give you a FULL reveal of a project I made with May's kit. I tore into this kit the minute I received it and have loved creating with it. It includes Penny Lane papers from My Mind's Eye and lots of fun embellishments!!

My layout is based on a Valerie Salmon sketch, nothing better than a sketch to get the creative juices flowing. I also used my new apron lace border punch that is so popular right now. The only thing not from the kit are the buttons and the Thickers.

And here is my first Mother's Day card I made with these papers. They are so versatile! The colors are perfect for any sentiment. I will definitely be making more Mother's Day cards with this kit!!

A Tutorial, a Challenge and a Sneaky Peek!

Hi Everyone! Today I have a tutorial, a challenge and another Sneaky Peek of the May Kit! First, let's get to the tutorial! I get alot of requests on how to make a 3 loop bow. So today I will show you how to make them! They are easy peasy!

First, you will lay a 6-8" piece of ribbon on your table.(If it curls up, just tape the ends!) You can use a sheer ribbon or the same ribbon as your bow. This is what you will use to hold the bow together.

Next, you will take your ribbon and lay it across the sheer ribbon and make a loop. This first loop should be the size you want the bow to be.

Then, continue to make loops until you have 3 loops on each side.

Hold the bow in the center with 1 finger or if you are having trouble you can temporarily put another piece of tape in the center of the bow to hold it. Then take the sheer ribbon and tie it in the center of the bow. Cut the sheer ribbon down and then fan out the bow and trim where necessary. And there you have it! A 3-Looped Bow!

Now I want you to make a 3-Looped bow and include it on a card, LO or whatever project you would like! You have until next Wednesday, April 29th to complete it and if you do, you get 5 points towards your April Charm! (Just edit your Points Sheet and add Blog Challenge Points = # of points!) I can't wait to see your bows!!

Item #1: This week's challenge:

Yesterday the SQOTD (scrapbooking question of the day) on our forum was "Do you ever use fabric on your layouts?". I was surprised to find that not many people have ever tried this. So, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for everyone to give it a try! Fabric can give the layout a very cool texture that some paper just can't do. You can use a big piece for a background or just a little piece to create a flower. As long as there is fabric somewhere on your layout--let's see it!!!! Stop over to our forum and upload your layout in the gallery!

Here are a couple examples where I've used fabric. (I don't have very many so this challenge is also a good one for ME!!!):

The one I made with the Moments To Remember “Abbey Road” April Kit is super easy.

I found the wooden vase at Hobby Lobby. It was a bright purple color. To change the color, I first spray painted it with a Primer and then went back over it with White Spray Paint. After that was good and dry, I got to work on the rest of the arrangement.

I used a couple of flower punches…but you could also use a die cutting machine (if you have one) for the flowers…or create them yourself! There are a few flowers that I cut out from the Abbey Road Vine sheet with my Xacto knife.

After I had punched the flowers out, I layered them on top of each other and secured them with a brad.

Then, I used floral wire and glued the wire to the flowers. This will need some time to dry.

While the flowers dried, I decorated the wooden vase with the paper. I glued the Abbey Road Vine paper to the vase and then cut around it with my Xacto. Using a scallop border punch, I punched a strip of white cardstock and also of the Abbey Road Dot paper and layered them in the center of the vase. Then, I tied a ribbon around the center of the vase and attached a tag from the Abbey Road Cutouts Sheet. I cut one more flower out of the Abbey Road Vine paper and attached it to the tag…along with some of the cardstock sticker vines from the Abbey Road Combo Sticker Sheet. To finish off the look of the vase, I inked around all the edges.

Finally, I filled the inside of the vase with floral foam and making sure the glue was dry on the flower stems, I inserted them into the foam.

I finished it off with a few ribbon ties around the stems and glued a few punched out butterflies to the stems.

To hide the floral foam, I cut a few strips of the pattern paper from the kit and curled those strips around a pencil. Then, I glued the curled strips to the inside of the vase.

No, no my girlies! First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! The January Kit SoLd OuT! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! :0)

Secondly, you've been waiting so very patiently -- hopefully you won't be disappointed......but here it is -- January's Paper Piecing -- the special paper piecing that goes along with your kit......It's super cute and super fun........wait for it....wait for it......you'll have to wait till tomorrow.....NO, no -- I'm just kidding! HEE HEE!

You'll find the paper piecing you'll be receiving in the mail in the lower left hand corner of this layout!

You'll receive 4 hearts, a length of ribbon so you can "string" them any way you like...and a few short ribbons to embellish however you like as well!

In addition to that -- if you create a LO similar to mine posted above and add it to the gallery using the paper piecing in the layout-- you'll be in a random RAK drawing at the end of the month to win this, you'll have until January 31st, midnight to upload:

I know I said tin of Primas, but I felt that this was a much better prize....don't you agree? There's a whole lot of scrappy goodness going on there! :0)

That's right! A challenge....what's this challenge you ask? Well, it's a challenge worth participating in....it's open to everyone....and the best part is you have the whole month of December to complete it!

It gets even better - you'll receive a free paper piecing and a sketch (which will be posted here, so you don't have to worry about printing anything out) -- all you have to do is complete a layout or project using the sketch as inspiration and the paper piecing and post it in the gallery.

What you need to do:

1 - PM Shannon for the paper piecing and she'll mail it out to you ASAP, so you have plenty of time to work on your layout or project.

2 - Complete your project or layout and post it to our gallery.

3 - Check out other project or layouts and leave some scrappy love in the gallery.

The DT will be voting on the projects and layouts and the winner will recieve a FREE JANUARY KIT -- THAT'S RIGHT -- A JANUARY KIT! How fun is that? What're you waiting for?
